LOVESTORY, SERIE PER TAPE PROJECT

wool production waste, selvedges 2021
site specific in 12-14 contemporary, Vienna
Villa Farsetti, Venice 2023

The idea for this project was born during the time Cristina Calderoni and Chiara Campanile shared a flat in Vienna. The arranged curtains that the two artists created transformed and marked their time together, inspiring the works in this momo. The curtains are visible from the outside and create a link between inside and outside. With their thin layer of fabric, they separate our home from the rest of the world, acting as the eyelids of the house. Curtains are also the way we frame our view of the world outside the window and they say a lot about our personalities, tastes and social status. Tape develops within Gallery 12-14, creating a temporary but flexible space. Although the word tape is generally associated with the concept of repair, here it is understood as a constructive tool; an impermanent glue that can form a structure. The textiles installed allow light to filter through their varying thicknesses and transparencies, transforming the gallery into a shelter or temporary home. The wool scraps used were donated by Lanificio Paoletti in Follina, Italy. Each piece of fabric supplied retains its own specific identity, linked to the manufacturing process, the production phase and the specific historical context in which it was conceived. Each piece of fabric is therefore imbued with its own memory. One of the fabrics is characterised by long threads connecting two finished pieces of fabric. These threads are a consequence of the pauses in the weaving of the fabric itself, becoming a visible metaphor for relationships in which silence, exchange, dialogue and distance are visually materialised. The two artists have worked with the same materials, but in different spaces and cities. In Italy, Cristina Calderoni worked in an industrial space at Lanificio Paoletti, as her multidisciplinary research is nomadic in nature. Her work is characterised by site-specific projects and the use of recycled materials, following social and environmental dynamics. His research starts from the place where he is and the people he meets. “In my poetics, the assembly of the remnants of everyday life becomes an action to create thoughts”. Chiara Campanile works in Vienna. Her research focuses on various aspects of light and colour, the relationship between reality and perception, and the visual and mental processes that can generate abstract thoughts. Chiara Campanile worked in Vienna. Her research focuses on different aspects of light and colour, the relationship between reality and perception and the visual and mental processes that can generate abstract thoughts. She is interested in interdisciplinary aspects and uses colour as a tool to initiate a dialogue between different disciplines. Each cut in the fabric connects and modifies the relationships between the various components, it is a small window. The works meet and dialogue for the first time in the gallery space 12-14, Schleifmuhlgasse, 1020 Wien.
